The project "Digital Archaeology", funded by the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce under Avanza Plan framework (TSI-070100-2008-133), has allowed the development of two tools designed to promote archaeological research on the argaric society.
In first place, a digital library featuring more than 900 titles published over nearly 150 years has been created including monographs and partial references in books with a more extensive content. Each title is available via PDF file, downloadable individually. The documents already available on the Internet and, therefore, produced by other research teams and institutions or media, are accompanied by the original URL reference.
In second place, it has launched a searching device able to identify texts and images. Optical Character Recognition (OCR) has been applied on all publications which allows the syntactical searching of terms. However, the innovation is the implementation of a semantic search. This searching tool works on text and image documents indexed according to an Argaric archaeological thesaurus specially developed for this project.
The use of the Argaric Library is restricted to non-commercial purposes. Futhermore, it is focused and limited to foster academic and research activities
